Carpenters Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (June 4, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Northeast Carpenters will conduct a recruitment from June 6, 2018 through June 5, 2019 for five linoleum, resilient tile and carpet layer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained only in-person Mondays thru Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. excluding legal holidays. All applications must be received no later than June 4, 2019.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old. A signed statement must be submitted at the time of application. Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as GED or TASC). A signed statement must be submitted at the time of application. Proof will be required at the time of application.
  • Must sign a statement indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of a linoleum, resilient tile, and carpet layer, and must attest to the same, which includes:
    • Performing constant repetitive motions.
    • Standing, stooping, and kneeling for prolonged periods of time.
    • Working in all types of weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold, heat and direct sunlight.
    • Lifting and carrying objects over 50 lbs.
    • Working on scaffold and in confined spaces.
    • Climbing and working from heights
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and related instruction. A signed statement attesting to this must be submitted at the time of application.
  • Must be willing and able to attend related instruction, as required.
  • Must provide New York State ID, after the offer of employment.
  • Must live within the geographical jurisdiction of the Northeast Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee, which includes all counties in New York State exceptNassau, Suffolk, Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, Richmond, and parts of Rockland and Westchester.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, upon and offer of position.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, at the time of appointment. If applicant tests positive, he/she cannot reapply for one year.
  • Applicants should be prepared to take a math and measurement computation test at the time of interview. If an applicant should not pass the entrance test, this does not qualify him/her from consideration.
  • Must participate in an interview, if selected

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
