St. Lawrence and Clarkson Climb in ECAC Hockey Conference Standings

Tickets on Sale Now for 2015 ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, March 20-21 in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Don’t look now, but here comes St. Lawrence. It was another good weekend for the Saints in ECAC Hockey play, sweeping both 16th ranked Yale, 3-2, Friday, and Brown, 5-2, Saturday. The Saints are 5-1 in their last six conference games and are in the hunt for the conference’s top seed, trailing 18th ranked and top seeded Quinnipiac (15-8-1, 10-2-0), who was idle last weekend, by just two points (20-18).

Clarkson (10-11-4, 7-4-2) is also clawing its way to the top of the conference standings. The Golden Knights are in fourth place, with 16 points, following two weekend shutouts, 6-0 over Brown (4-15-0, 1-11-0) and blanking seventh seeded Yale (11-6-2, 6-5-1), 1-0, Saturday.

On Saturday night, Jan. 31, it will be a battle for second place in the ECAC Hockey conference when Clarkson plays host to St. Lawrence. This will be the third and final regular season meeting between these two North Country rivals. On Oct. 31, the two skated to a 2-2 tie, before St. Lawrence blanked the Golden Knights, 4-0, the following night.

The reigning national champions, Union College, have yet to hit their regular season stride and time is beginning to run out on the Dutchmen. Union (12-10-2, 4-7-1) currently sits in 10th place in ECAC Hockey play and has 10 conference games remaining on the schedule, but only four of them are at home. This weekend they travel fourth ranked Harvard (12-4-2, 8-3-2), tied with St. Lawrence in conference play, Friday, before squaring off against ninth seeded Dartmouth (7-8-4, 4-6-2), Saturday.

Only seven points separate the one through seven seeds, but it should all sort itself out as league play intensifies with just five more weekend of regular season play before the post-season.
