MEDIA ADVISORY: DEC ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF NEW CONSCIENCE BAY WATERSHED PROPERTY & UNVEIL ENGRAVED BOULDER

The State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), along with Assemblyman Steve Englebright and other elected officials, will be unveiling a new unique property in Setauket that will add to the Conscience Bay Watershed.

DEC will be unveiling a boulder and plaque dedicated to the Besunder family for choosing to sell this property for conservation and recreation over development.

The new acquisition includes extensive waterfront along Conscience Bay, a walking trail, a unique freshwater wetland, a red cedar forest, an osprey nest, and nearly pristine mudflats and shellfish beds.

What:             DEC Region 1 Director Carrie Meek Gallagher, Assemblyman Steve Englebright, the Besunder Family and elected officials will unveil the boulder and new trail on this unique parcel.
Where:           At intersection of Dyke Road and North Road in Setauket.
When:            Tuesday, November 20 at 11 a.m.

Directions to press conference location: Take Nichols Road toward Stony Brook and turn right onto North County Road/NY-25A. In 0.4 miles, turn left onto North Country Road. North Country Road becomes Main Street. Turn right to stay on Main Street, and then take first left onto Caroline Avenue. Caroline Avenue becomes Dyke Road. Continue until intersection with North Road and turn left onto North Road.
