Metro-North Crews to Make Safety Upgrades to Port Jervis Line

Buses to Substitute for Trains Between Port Jervis and Harriman from Late Friday Evening, November 2, Through Early Evening Sunday, November 4

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that this weekend crews will install a new cab signal system at Hudson Junction, a track-switching location east of Campbell Hall on the Port Jervis Line, which is the latest phase in the complete upgrade of the Port Jervis Line signal system.  This new system will support the installation of Positive Train Control, a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.

Elsewhere along the Port Jervis Line this weekend, crews will install antenna poles, transponders and wayside interface units, which are computers that are located along the right of way that process information about the status of switches and signals. This equipment must be in place to make Positive Train Control operational on the Line.

To accommodate this safety upgrade, buses will substitute for trains between Port Jervis and Harriman from November 2- 4, on select Friday night trains, all Saturday trains and select Sunday trains.
