Powerball Jackpot Swells to $750 Million on the Heels of Mega Millions Mania

$750 Million stunner is third largest in game history

The Powerball jackpot for Saturday, October 27 is now $750 Million. The news comes as the New York Lottery continues to pay out more than $8.7 million in cash prizes on the 1,299,715 tickets sold for the near record Mega Millions drawing held earlier this week.

“We’re on a winning streak, that’s for sure,” said Gweneth Dean, Director of the New York Gaming Commission’s Division of Lottery. “We want New Yorkers to appreciate that every drawing produces winners, including our players, schools and small businesses statewide. When New Yorkers play the Lottery, New York wins.”

Dean pointed to the prizes, commissions paid to lottery retailers, and Lottery Aid To Education generated from the current Powerball roll up to bolster the point. Since this Powerball jackpot began rolling on August 12:

  • New York’s Powerball prizes to players totaled $14,339,588
  • New York Lottery retailers earned $5,986,594
  • Lottery Aid To Education accrued to $34,921,799
  • Three winning $1 million tickets sold in New York

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.37 billion in fiscal year 2017-2018 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 13 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.

New Yorkers struggling with a gambling addiction, or who know someone who is, can find help by calling the State's toll-free, confidential HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY (1-877-846-7369) or by texting HOPENY (467369).
