ADVISORY: MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota to Discuss Comprehensive Transportation Plan for LIRR Commuters Impacted by Amtrak’s Emergency Service Repairs at Penn Station

 

In response to Amtrak’s emergency service repairs at Penn Station, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and LIRR are putting in place a comprehensive transportation plan to help LIRR commuters reach their destinations safely and reliably this summer. The plan goes into effect on July 10.
 
MTA and LIRR representatives will hold a media teleconference to discuss the action plan and key service objectives in the face of Amtrak’s emergency service repairs, including:
  • Maintaining LIRR’s passenger capacity with added trains and expanded cars
  • Providing alternative transportation options, including buses and ferries
  • Mitigating an anticipated increase in road traffic
 
The plan, logistics, mitigation tactics, commuter resources and operational details will also be discussed during the teleconference.
