Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Recruit Apprentices

Watertown, NY (June 3, 2016) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union #2 (Ogdensburg), will conduct a recruitment from May 30, 2016 through May 26, 2017 for five bricklayer, mason, and plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Watertown office (The Work Place), 1000 Coffeen Street, Watertown, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  They can also be obtained at the St. Lawrence Career Center, 80 State Highway 310, Suite 8, Canton, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

Completed applications should be sent to Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers LU #2, 312 Pratt Street, Watertown, and N.Y. 13601.  All applications must be received no later than June 2, 2017.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must be physically able to lift 50-100 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must reside (for at least six months prior to application) within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #2, which includes all of St. Lawrence, Jefferson, and Lewis counties, except for the Lewis County townships of Constableville, Port Leyden, Lyons Falls, Turin, and Redfield.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
