Resending: ADVISORY – LIRR to Reopen Urban Avenue in New Cassel, L.I.

First of Five Grade Crossings to Be Transformed into an Underpass Reopens On Time

Tomorrow at 10 a.m., officials from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will reopen Urban Avenue in New Cassel, L.I., to vehicular traffic. The street had been closed in March to allow it to be rebuilt as an underpass beneath the LIRR’s busy Main Line. As part of the LIRR Expansion Project (also known as the Third Track project), it is the first of five at-grade railroad crossings along the Main Line to be transformed into underpasses, improving safety, train reliability and traffic, and reducing local sound nuisances.
