Media and Friends of Whiteface Lake Placid:

The staff at Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., is gearing up for what’s expected to be a busy Presidents’ Holiday week of skiing and riding the Olympic mountain. More than 75% of the resort’s trails are open and over the last 48 hours, Mother Nature has brought New York State’s fifth highest peak more than five inches of natural snow.

On top of that, snowmaking continues 24/7 through Saturday from the mountain’s summit to its base. So from the summit of Whiteface guests can ski and ride, Skyward, Paron’s and the Follies. From the summit of Little Whiteface, Approach, Excelsior, Northway, Essex and more are open.

In the base lodge, the Taste NY Café is open and serving a wide range of north country and New York State agricultural products—from local yogurts, cheeses and baked goods to craft beer, hard cider and wine. In the Cloudspin Bar and Grill, there’s live music with Crackin’ Foxy, on Saturday, and Big Boss Sausage, Sunday. Both bands will play from 3-6 p.m.

In addition to skiing and riding the east’s greatest vertical, guests can experience bobsled, luge and skeleton rides on the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex combined sliding track, skate on both the 1932 Olympic arena and Olympic speed skating oval ice, cross country ski, tour the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, and take in the family fun of the Harlem Globetrotters.

The Harlem Globetrotters will play in Lake Placid’s Olympic Center, Wednesday, February 17. All of these activities have helped to make Whiteface Lake Placid #1 for Off-Hill Activities by readers of SKI MAGAZINE for 26 consecutive years.
