Plumbers & Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

Mountainville, NY (February 8, 2021) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plumber & Steamfitters, Local Union #373, will conduct a recruitment from May 24, 2021 through June 7, 2021 for three Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentices, and three Plumber and Steamfitter apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained from Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #373, 76 Pleasant Hill Road, Mountainville, NY, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed on site. This is a limited-application recruitment. Only 60 applications will be distributed, on a first-come, first-serve basis. The recruitment will be offered for 10 business days or until 60 applications have been issued, whichever comes first.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #373, which includes all of Rockland, Orange, and Sullivan Counties, and in Ulster County the following Towns: Shawangunk, Plattekill, Marlboro, Wawarsing, and Ellenville up to Napanoch Prison.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license. Apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
