Statement from MTA Acting Chair and CEO Janno Lieber on U.S. Senate Passage of Infrastructure Bill

“The MTA applauds the Senate’s passage of the infrastructure bill championed by Majority Leader Schumer, which would provide critically-needed funding to the MTA for important public transit projects. We thank Sen. Schumer for his continued, steadfast support of the MTA and its riders throughout his career, and particularly his extraordinary leadership in securing billions of dollars of relief funds to help the MTA recover from impacts of the pandemic. The Senate bill includes funding to allow the MTA to upgrade accessibility, pursue the second phase of the 2nd Avenue Subway, bring Metro-North to Penn Station with four new stations in the East Bronx, and make improvements to ensure key parts of the region’s infrastructure stay in a state of good repair. We urge Congress to quickly enact a final bill that addresses these pressing transit needs at a time when the MTA is needed more than ever to help fuel the region's recovery."
