Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Hauppauge, NY (February 3, 2023) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for the Electrical Industry of Nassau and Suffolk Counties will conduct a recruitment from April 12, 2023 through September 20, 2023 for 45 Electrician apprentices, and two Electrical Maintenance Technician apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be filled out, in person only, at JATC for the Electrical Industry of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, 370 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge, NY, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on these recruitment days (4/12/23, 4/19/23, 5/3/23, 5/17/23, 6/7/23, 6/21/23, 7/5/23, 7/19/23, 8/2/23, 8/16/23, 9/6/23 and 9/20/23) excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. on September 20, 2023.

All applicants must respect and maintain a proper social distance while standing in line, both inside and outside the building, as well as while completing the application for apprenticeship.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof (transcripts) is required at time of application.
  • Must have taken and passed one year of Elementary Algebra, NYS Math 1, or Algebra Regents Math. Proof will be required at time of application.
  • Must submit to and pass a substance abuse test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be a resident of Nassau County or Suffolk County for at least 12 months prior to the date of application. Proof is required at time of application.
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work required of the trade, which may include:
    • Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, and towers of various heights.
    • Crawling and working in confined spaces such as attics and manhole and crawlspaces.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license in order to drive company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites within the geographical area and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must take and pass the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) aptitude test in order to receive an interview.
  • Must participate in an interview, if selected.
  • Must provide DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after an offer of employment.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
