Buffalo, NY (September 4, 2015) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Buffalo Laborers, Local Union #210, will conduct a recruitment from October 5, 2015 through October 16, 2015 for 10 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be completed on site at the Buffalo Laborers Training Center, 1370 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the recruitment period.  

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
• Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, which may include:

• Working with sharp objects and hazardous machinery.
• Possible exposure to loud noises and respiratory irritants.
• Prolonged lifting, standing, and walking.
• Repetitive squatting and bending.
• Working in extreme temperatures and all types of weather conditions.
• Lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment.
• Working off of ladders at various heights.

• Must pass a physical exam, including a drug screen, at the expense of the sponsor.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license in order to operate company-owned vehicles on public highways.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from related instruction classes and various jobsites throughout the jurisdictional area.
• Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
