Arbor Day Celebrated in New York with Announcement of Urban Forestry Grants and Student and State Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners

New Yorkers Encouraged to Recognize Numerous Contributions Provided by Trees

 

As part DEC’s weeklong celebration of Earth Day, the Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Agriculture and Markets join industry partners at an Arbor Day celebration.

The north end of the Empire State Plaza, located in the center of downtown Albany, will serve as the backdrop for this celebration and Northern Red Oak tree planting.

Who: DEC Commissioner Joe Martens and State Agriculture First Deputy Commissioner Jim Bays will be joined by state elected officials and industry partners including:

  • President of NYS Nursery and Landscape Association, Jerry Parmenter
  • President and CEO of Empire State Forest Products Association, Eric Carlson
  • New York Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture representative, Trevor Hall
  • Chair of New York State Tree Farm, Erin O’Neil
  • State Senator Cecelia Tzacykz
  • Assemblyman John McDonald
