NEW YORK SET TO SELL EXCITING NEW MONOPOLY MILLIONARES’ CLUB NATIONAL LOTTERY GAME

First-of-its-kind game combines the high stakes and rich rewards of a multi-state lottery game with the fun and entertainment of a nationally televised game show

SCHENCTADY – Tickets for the nation’s new MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game go on sale October 19 in New York for the inaugural drawing that will take place on October 24. Promotional materials including play cards and “How to Play” pads are now available at all retail locations licensed to sell New York Lottery products.

Acting New York Lottery Director Gardner Gurney said the excitement throughout the Lottery industry is unprecedented, “This first-of-its-kind game combines the high stakes and rich rewards of a multi-state lottery game with the fun and entertainment of a nationally televised game show, which is a perfect fit in today’s world of apps, plug-ins, and add-ons. The MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB contains a number of interactive elements designed to entertain and enrich players like never before.”

MONOPOLY MILLIONARES’ CLUB will offer players three ways to win at least $1,000:

  • Through a weekly drawing on Friday nights for a top prize of up to $25,000,000;
  • In a special Millionares’ Club drawing that will take place only when the top prize is won in the weekly drawing; and
  • On a nationally televised game show of the same name to be hosted by actor/comedian Billy Gardell starting in 2015.

The game show will begin airing in February 2015. All contestants on the MONOPOLY MILIONAIRES’ CLUB game show will be selected exclusively from among players of the national lottery game who register their special web code online or via a smartphone app.

The syndicated game show will air in all major TV markets across the State and on the Game Show Network. The show will also will be available on demand.

New York is one of 23 lotteries across the country preparing for the October 24 inaugural MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB drawing. The population of all lottery jurisdictions selling the game for the first drawing will be approximately 175 million. That number is expected to swell to 245 million by the first airing of the game show in February 2015 as more jurisdictions acquire the regulatory approvals needed to join the game.

Lottery jurisdictions other than New York scheduled to participate in the new national game include Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C.

The unique design of the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game is expected to generate more simultaneous millionaires than any other game in lottery history. The MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game is a response to wishes of lottery players nationwide who said that they would like a game with a higher number of winners of substantial prizes beyond just one or two winners of an enormous jackpot.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.17 billion in fiscal year 2013-2014 to help support education in New York State.  The Lottery’s contribution represents 15 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.  It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.

About the New York State Gaming Commission

The New York State Gaming Commission regulates all aspects of gaming and gambling activity in the state, including horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering, class III Indian gaming, video lottery terminal facilities at race tracks, the state lottery and charitable gaming.
