Meet Lake Placid’s Past & Future Winter Olympians

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Meet past and future winter Olympians Thursday afternoons this summer at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. The Meet an Olympian program is a unique opportunity for visitors to speak with several regional Olympians about their journey to the Games and learn more about what it takes to be an Olympic athlete. 

The program kicks off, Thursday, July 6, from 3-5 p.m. with women’s ski jumper, Tara Geraghty-Moats, who is looking to compete in February’s Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.  Two-time Olympic alpine Super-G medalist Andrew Weibrecht follows her, on July 13. Weibrecht returns to the Museum, July 27, with alpine Olympic hopeful Cecily Decker.

Lowell Bailey, 2017 World Biathlon Champion and three-time Olympian, joins fellow biathlon teammate and three-time Olympian, Tim Burke on Thursday, July 20, while American luge athlete Chris Mazdzer, a two-time Olympian, will be on hand Aug. 3.

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is located at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.  All scheduled athletes are subject to change and additional past and future Olympians may join the program.  Admission for the Meet an Olympian program is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65+ and juniors 7 – 12, visitors age six and under are free.

Established in 1982, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created by the State of New York to manage the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid. ORDA operates Whiteface, Belleayre and Gore Mountain ski areas; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; the Olympic speed skating oval, Olympic jumping complex and Olympic arena. As host to international and national championships, the Authority has brought millions of athletes, spectator and participants to the region, resulting in significant economic development.
