Capitol Park After Dark Schedule
August 21 — “Dial M for Murder”
Roy Milland stars as the retired professional tennis player Tony Wendice, who is at the center of a murder plan gone wrong, in one of director Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest thrillers released in 1954. After discovering that his wealthy wife Margot Wendice, played by Grace Kelly, had an affair, he believes that she will leave him. Tony then blackmails an old classmate into agreeing to murder her. But when the plan goes awry, and his wife kills her would-be killer, he devises a method of framing her for murder.
August 28 — “Matilda”
A 1996 movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s novel “Matilda,” the film follows the story of a gifted girl who develops telekinetic powers and uses them to stand up to her unkind family and school principal. The film stars Mara Wilson as Matilda Wormwood, Danny DeVito as her father, and Rhea Perlman as her mother. Embeth Davidtz plays Miss Jeniffer Honey, the kind teacher who inspires Matilda to stand up for herself, and Pam Ferris who plays Agatha Trunchbull, the abusive principal of Crunchem Hall Primary School.
September 4 — “The Thin Man”
Directed by W. S. Van Dyke and based on Dashiell Hammett’s novel, this 1934 comedy-mystery film stars William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles. Nick is a retired private detective who left his very successful career when he married Nora, a wealthy heiress accustomed to high society. A leisure-class couple, Nick and Nora team up to investigate a murder case, mostly for the fun of it. In 1997, the film was added to the United States National Film Registry, having been deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
