These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, the Enhanced Station Initiative in Queens and on-going capital construction work on the MTA New York City Transit subway system.  These programs maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to continue to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service.  For more information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program, click here.  

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All of this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents, strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system.    

“The Weekender” is your digital guide to understanding planned service changes in effect for system maintenance and construction, and makes it easy for subway riders to visualize exactly how weekend work will affect subway service.  Customers may visit www.mta.info and check out “The Weekender,” accessible by clicking the  “Weekender” tab located within the Service Status Menu.

The “Weekender for Mobile App” includes MTA Subway Time data and is available for iPhone in the Apple app store, and in the Google Play store for Android devices.  This free-to-download app shares the same features as the desktop version, including a subway diagram that displays the service to be provided each weekend, and all service changes.  Users can pinch or expand the map to multiple zoom levels, and tap to choose one of three ways to view service diversions: Service by Line, Service by Borough and Service by Station.

TripPlanner+ provides travel information that takes weekend service diversions into account.  In addition, customers can receive customized subway diversion e-mails delivered to their inbox by signing up for the E-mail Subscription Program by clicking here.   Customers who rely on these lines should allow for additional travel time.

From 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, Wakefield-241 St bound  trains run express from E 180 St to Wakefield-241 St due to signal maintenance.  Use a South Ferry-bound  train to complete your trip.  As a reminder,  trains will not run in the Bronx this weekend. 

From 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  trains run local in both directions between 96 St and Times Sq-42 St due to drain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan. 

From 10 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26,  trains run local in both directions between 34 St-Penn Station and 14 St due to track maintenance. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel.  This project is part of MTA’s ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables. 

• In Brooklyn,  service will be extended to New Lots Av to replace the .  service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the  .   and  trains will run local in Brooklyn.  Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations.  As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St .  Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for  trains for service to Manhattan.
• In Manhattan, downtown  trains will be rerouted.  trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry.   service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St.  Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations.  Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St  stations instead.
• A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry   and Bowling Green  Transfer between South Ferry  and  at South Ferry-Whitehall St.  Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for  trains to Brooklyn. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  service is suspended in both directions between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St due to signal modernization.   trains will run between South Ferry and Wakefield-241 St, and 5 trains will run between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Grand Central-42 St.  Free shuttle buses operate between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.  Transfer between free shuttle buses and  trains at E 180 St. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  trains run local in both directions between 96 St and 14 St due to track maintenance. 

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, to 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  service will operate in two sections due to track maintenance in the Jerome Tube: Between Woodlawn and 125 St, and between 125 St and New Lots Av.  Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, Woodlawn-bound  trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse due to track maintenance in the Jerome Tube.  Use a Manhattan-bound  train to complete your trip and transfer at 149 St-Grand Concourse.  

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  service is extended to New Lots Av and  service is extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel.    trains will run local in Brooklyn to replace the .  A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry  and Bowling Green  stations.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  service is suspended in both directions between Grand Central-42 St and the Bronx due to track maintenance in the Jerome Tube.  Use  and shuttle buses instead.   service will operate between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Grand Central-42 St.  Transfer between  and  trains at 42 St via the  or 42 Street  shuttle.  Transfer between  trains and shuttle buses at E 180 St. 

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 34 St-Hudson Yards-bound  trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza due to track replacement.  Use a Flushing-Main St bound  train to complete your trip.   

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, downtown  trains run express from 168 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to drain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan.  Use an uptown  local or  to complete your trip. As a reminder,  service does not operate overnight. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  trains run express in both directions between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Canal St due to electrical improvements.  For service to 50 St and 23 St, take the  or  train making these stops during this time.  For service to Spring St, take the .  As a reminder,  service does not operate overnight.  

From 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, Inwood-207 St-bound  trains run local from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 168 St due to drain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan. 

From 11:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  trains are suspended in both directions between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to signal maintenance.   service will operate in two sections:

• Between Norwood-205 St and 125 St, local via the  to/from W 4 St, and via the  to/from 2 Av, the last stop.
• Between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
• Use the  nearby  on Broadway, or  on 8 Av to complete your trip.
• Free shuttle buses will operate between W 4 St and Grand St.

From 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday to Monday, Jan. 26, to Jan. 29,  trains run express in both directions between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St due to signal maintenance.  Use the  or  to complete your trip.    

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, Norwood-205 St-bound  trains skip 170 St and 174-175 Sts due to track maintenance.  Use a Manhattan-bound  to complete your trip. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, World Trade Center-bound  trains skip Briarwood and 75 Av due to signal maintenance.  Use a Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  or Jamaica-179 St bound  train to complete your trip. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, Manhattan-bound  trains run express from 71 Av to Queens Plaza due to signal maintenance.  As a reminder, late night  service is not available in Queens.

At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I due to station renewal work on the Culver Line .  When finished, more than 27,000 daily customers will benefit from repaired staircases, fare control areas, walls, floors, platform girders, new platform windscreens, rubbing boards, tactile warning strips, improved lighting and artwork. 

• For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  trains are suspended in both directions between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av due to signal maintenance.  Free shuttle buses will make all  line stations stops between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av.  Transfer between trains and buses at Church Av. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Sutphin Blvd, Briarwood, and 75 Av due to signal maintenance.  Use a Jamaica Center-bound  or Jamaica-179 St bound  to complete your trip. 

At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound  trains skip 104 St due to station rehabilitation work.

• For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound  to 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound .
• For service from this stations use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from  service at nearby 111 St.

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St due to track replacement.  Use a Manhattan-bound  train to complete your trip. 

At all times until April 2018,  service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs due to the Myrtle Viaduct Reconstruction project.   service will operate in two sections:

• Between Delancey-Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the  to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
• Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
• Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

From 6:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28,  trains are suspended in both directions between Essex St and Broadway Junction due to track replacement.  For service between Essex St and Broadway Junction, take the  instead.      

From 9 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26,  service will end early between 71 Av and Essex St due to track maintenance.  Take the  or  instead. 

At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.

• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the . Transfer between  and  trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

At all times until spring 2018,  trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  When this extensive overhaul is completed at the 30 Av and 36 Av stations, customers will benefit from improved features, such as enhanced signage for easier navigation, including digital, real-time train arrival information at subway entrances, glass and wire mesh platform windscreens, new security cameras and railings, artwork, new glass barriers and LED lighting throughout for increased light and transparency and a new staircase for exiting from the 30 Av Astoria-bound platform to the street-level intersection of 30th Avenue and Newtown Avenue.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations for  service at Broadway, Astoria Blvd, and 39 Av, or go to the Steinway St or 36 St stations.  Or, use the following convenient bus route(s):

• Q102 to open Astoria line stations, Queensboro Plaza  or Queens Plaza
• Q18 to Northern Blvd .
• Q66 to Steinway St , Northern Blvd , 21 St-Queensbridge , Queensboro Plaza , and Queens Plaza .
• Q69 and Q100 Ltd to 21 St-Queensbridge , Queens Plaza , Queensboro Plaza .

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29,  trains run local in both directions between DeKalb Av and 59 St (Brooklyn) due to signal maintenance. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, Astoria-bound  trains skip 39 Av and Broadway due to station enhancements at 30 Av and 36 Av.  Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  or Whitehall St-bound  to complete your trip.
