Yale and Quinnipiac Meet in Week #2 of ECAC Hockey Conference Play

ALBANY, N.Y. --- Saturday’s, Nov. 9, match-up of Quinnipiac hosting Yale headlines week two of the ECAC Hockey conference schedule.  The game, set to begin at 7 p.m., marks the first time the two schools will have met since squaring off for the NCAA national championship in April.  In that game, the Bulldogs skated away from the Bobcats 4-0 en route to their first national championship crown.

Fourth-ranked Quinnipiac is off to an 8-1 overall start and 2-0 in conference play after skating past Colgate 7-2, Friday, Nov. 1, and blanking Cornell 3-0 the following evening.

Those two wins allowed the school to sweep the conference’s top three player honors, Player of the Week, Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week.

Senior forward Jones Roy tallied three goals and one assist in the two wins, while freshman Sam Anas netted five points.  Sophomore goalie Michael Garteig ran his winning streak to eight games and is 8-1 overall with giving up just 1.56 goals per game.

Ninth ranked Yale has started off conference play 1-0-1 after recording a 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence, Friday night, before doubling up Clarkson 6-3, Saturday night.

Other games on Saturday feature co-conference leader Union (3-2-3, 2-0-0) hosting 15th ranked Cornell (3-1-0, 1-1-0) and Harvard (2-1-1, 1-1-1) entertaining 16th ranked Clarkson.  Clarkson is just two points behind Quinnipiac and Union for first place in the conference standings with a 7-2-1 overall mark and 1-1 conference record.

Colgate (3-5-1, 1-1-0) travels to number-10 RPI (5-2-1, 1-1-1), Dartmouth, looking for its first win of the season (0-4-0, 0-2-0) welcomes St. Lawrence (4-2-2, 0-2-0) and Brown (2-1-1, 0-1-1) travels to New Jersey to square off against Princeton (1-3-0, 0-2-0).

Six games dot Friday’s, Nov. 8, schedule.  Quinnipiac hosts Brown, Cornell travels to RPI and Yale makes the trip to Princeton.  Other games have St. Lawrence on the road to face Harvard, Union welcoming Colgate and Clarkson in New Hampshire to face off against Dartmouth.  The puck drops at 7 p.m. for all of the games.

On March 21-22, the conference’s top four teams will face off in Lake Placid when the Olympic Center plays host to the 2014 ECAC Hockey men’s championships.  Lake Placid last played host to the tournament from 1993-2002 and the event marks the 53rd overall conference championship.

The four top teams coming from the league’s quarterfinal tournament round will battle it out on the ice looking to capture the Whitelaw Cup and an automatic bid to the 67th annual NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament. The two semifinal games will take place Friday, March 21, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and the championship game will be played Saturday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m.

All-session tickets can be purchased by calling the Lake Placid Olympic Center box office at 518-523-3330, or by visiting www.tickets.com.
