Plumbers and Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

Latham, NY (December 13, 2019) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #7, will conduct a recruitment from January 2, 2020 through December 3, 2020 for five Plumber and Pipefitter apprentices, five Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentices, and five Welder (Industrial) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #7, 18 Avis Drive, Latham, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the first Thursday of every month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical exam and drug testing after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship, at the expense of the sponsor.
  • Must take and pass the “Wonderlic Basic Skills” aptitude test.
  • Must provide DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after an offer of employment.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from work and required classes at the approved school.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
