It’s a High Flying Presidents’ Holiday in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- From skis to sneakers, athletes will be soaring high during Presidents’ Week in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Athletes from Canada, Japan and the United States will reach heights of 50 or more feet in the air during Saturday and Sunday’s, Feb. 14-15, Freestyle Lake Placid NorAm Aerials taking place at the Olympic Jumping Complex. Watch these daredevils ski straight down the hill, at speeds of 20-plus miles-per-hour before launching themselves off of ramps, known as “kickers,” that stand as high as nine feet tall. While in the air, they’ll perform flips, twists and turns before landing on the hill beneath to the delight of the crowd and the score of the judges.

 

Action begins both days at noon.  Admission for this event is $16 for adults and $10 for juniors and seniors.

 

On Monday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., the world famous and rim rattling Harlem Globetrotters, featuring some of the greatest athletes and entertainers on the planet, will bring their unrivaled family show to the Olympic Center during the Harlem Globetrotters 2015 “Washington Generals’ Revenge” Tour. 

With a star-studded roster featuring Big Easy Lofton, Ant Atkinson, Hi-Lite Bruton, Thunder Law, Bull Bullard, Firefly Fisher and Moose Weekesplus female stars TNT Maddox, T-Time Brawner and Sweet J Ekworomadu – the Globetrotters’ one-of-a-kind show is unrivaled in the world of family entertainment. With incredible ball handling wizardry, high flying dunks, trick shots, hilarious comedy and unequaled fan interaction, this must-see event is guaranteed to entertain the whole family. After the game, Globetrotter stars will sign autographs and take photos with fans.

If this isn’t enough heart pounding action, then be sure to take in Tuesday’s, Feb. 17, FIS Cup ski jumping competition, also taking place at the Olympic Jumping Complex.

Jumpers from eight countries to include Canada, Finland, Great Britain, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Turkey and the United States will soar off the 90-meter ski jump, traveling the length or more of a football field before landing.

This family fun, gravity defying event gets underway at 1 p.m.  Admission is $16 for adults and $10 for juniors and seniors.

 

Finally, be sure to take in all of the fun activities that have made Whiteface Lake Placid number-one for Off-Hill activities for 24 years by readers of Ski Magazine. Ski or ride the Olympic mountain, Whiteface, in Wilmington, N.Y. Zip down an icy chute by riding either a bobsled, luge or skeleton sled or enjoy public skating on the Olympic speed skating oval, or indoors in the 1932 arena. Plus take in the breathe taking vistas of the Adirondack high peaks, while enjoying more than 50 kilometers of cross country skiing or snow shoeing at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg cross country ski center.
